Cookies and local storage
Roam Pal Guide · roampalguide.com · last reviewed 2 October 2026
Roam Pal Guide sets no cookies of its own. It has no adverts and no tracking tools. It saves your things in your browser’s own storage, on your device. The place photos come from Wikimedia Commons under their open licences. They load from Wikimedia’s servers, which may set their own cookie. We explain this below.
What Roam Pal saves on your device
To remember your trips, places, access needs and display choices between visits, Roam Pal uses your browser’s own storage on your device: local storage, and an offline copy store. These are not cookies. They are not sent with every request the way a cookie is.
- Your trips, places, notes, photos, access needs, memberships, bookings and journey support plans.
- Your display choices, such as text size and dark mode.
- Access corrections you have not sent yet.
- Which videos you reported, so the button can say “You reported this video”.
- Your choice about anonymous service measurement, and a date marker (see below).
- Copies of guides, place photos and video pictures, so Roam Pal works offline.
- The Roam Mate model files, if you choose to download them.
These are there because you use those features. We treat them as strictly necessary, so Roam Pal does not show a cookie banner for them.
Optional anonymous service measurement
In Settings, you can choose to help improve Roam Pal with two aggregate counts. The choice starts off. If you turn it on, the app may send only a supported-browser install confirmation, and one launch of the installed app a day. The request contains no name, account, device ID, trip, place, access need, search, location or note. Our Hub adds it to a daily total and keeps no record of each signal.
A local storage setting remembers your choice, and a date marker stops more than one launch signal a day. Neither is sent to us. You can switch the setting off at any time without losing a feature.
Cookies from other services
- Wikimedia Commons is where the place photos come from, under their open licences. The photos load from Wikimedia’s servers, which may set their own cookie (WMF-Uniq). We do not set it and we cannot control it. See the Wikimedia privacy policy.
- When we checked on 2 October 2026, the map pictures (OpenFreeMap), video pictures (YouTube), route, postcode and place-search services set no cookies on a first visit.
- If you follow a link to another website, such as a booking site, that website may set its own cookies. Its own policy applies.
Clearing your data
To remove everything Roam Pal has saved, clear this site’s data in your browser settings, or uninstall the app. If you turned on anonymous service measurement, a daily total may already include your signal. It cannot identify you.
For everything else, see our privacy notice and our data protection and UK GDPR statement.
