How Roam Pal works

Roam Pal helps you plan a trip with access information built in. Here's how to use it. You don't have to set anything up first. It already works with your device's own text-size, dark mode and motion settings.

Finding a place

Pick a guide
Choose an area or theme at the top: a county, a city, a coast, or an accessible-travel collection.
Explore or Browse
Explore shows places on a map. Browse shows them as cards you can read, a complete way to find places without using the map. Search by name, or filter by what you fancy.
Search across all guides
Type a place name and Roam Pal also finds it in other guides, even ones you haven't opened.

Reading a place

Open any place and you'll read about it first: what it is and why to go. Then comes Visiting: one section for everyone, with getting there (nearest station, parking), and what's at the venue (step-free access, toilets, terrain, sensory notes and more). It's not a separate "disabled" section. The useful stuff is all together.

Where we haven't checked access yet, you'll see "not yet checked". That never means a place is inaccessible, just that nobody has gathered the information. Been somewhere? You can tell us if our information was right.

Making it easier to use

Text size, dark mode, dyslexia-friendly and Easy Read
Open settings (the ♿ button) and these live under "Make Roam Pal easier to use". Easy Read shows the main access facts as short sentences with a picture beside each.
Your access needs
Tell the app your needs once and every list and place adapts, and your needs come first, in the same section everyone reads. You can also make an "Access Passport" to send a venue before you go.

Planning a trip

Wish list and itineraries
Add places you like, then build them into day-by-day plans with drive times. Move stops between days, reorder days, and read a "Day at a glance" written route.
Print or share
Print a plan for the glovebox, or share it by link or QR, no account needed.
Journey support
Open My trip to track assistance for rail, coach, airports, ferries and local buses. Build a practical support plan from your Access Profile, then choose exactly which sections to share.
Offline & private
Guides and plans work offline once loaded. Map tiles still need a connection while our provider and offline-map permissions are being finalised. Your data stays on your device: no accounts, no tracking.

Your data and our policies

There are no accounts and no tracking. What you create is saved on your device. Nothing you create is sent to us unless you choose to send it, such as a report. If you want the full picture, or if your organisation is considering the app, everything is set out plainly in one place: privacy, cookies, data protection and UK GDPR, security, accessibility, and terms. Read our policies.
